It is beginning to feel a lot like a museum now as our landscaped entrance is taking shape and our new display cases and audiovisual displays have been installed!
About the project
What has happened recently
Our new display cases and audiovisual displays have been installed! The cases in our new building will showcase innovative instruments and world-changing products made by Pye and Cambridge Instrument Company. You will also be able to see additional content on touchscreens and listen to clips of interviews with former employees on a telephone handset. Elsewhere in the Museum, we have installed an introductory video and soundscapes of what the Pumping Station sounded like when it was running.
Construction on the lower part of the site is ongoing and the new ramp and landscaped entrance are taking shape. The construction completion date has been delayed, but we are working with the contractor to ensure that we have have access to our buildings, so the rest of our interpretation can be installed and we can prepare the spaces for visitors.
We had a sneak peak at our interactive model of the Pumping Station while it was being built. The model will help visitors understand the sewage and rubbish disposal process in a fun, interactive way. It features moving steam engines, a flushing toilet, horrid smells, and Fred Dibnah up the chimney!
We are developing interactive exhibits and activity stations for children. These will complement the displays and help children understand the scientific principles behind some of our exhibits and how things work - as well as being fun to play with!
We do not yet have a firm re-opening date, but watch this space! We plan to reopen in May 2019 and we have many exciting events scheduled in for the summer.
We still need your help with fundraising!
We still need to raise more money! You can donate online through Charity Choice or through JustGiving. Or why not Adopt an Object - for yourself or as a unique gift.
