An exhibition of site specific artwork by second-year students from Cambridge Art School.
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May, 2-4pm
You will recognise this monument from the city’s skyline, but what lies within and beneath the site of this historic chimney will be brought to the fore by a group of Cambridge School of Art students in a contemporary art exhibition.
Bringing together a diverse range of media: printing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and digital media; Monument explores 12 artists’ sense of space and place in response to the Cambridge Museum of Technology site.
Cambridge Museum of Technology has been closed for over a year for a major reevelopment, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic England, but will re-open to coincide with the Monument exhibition.
Cambridge School of Art was founded by John Ruskin who is often regarded as one of the forerunners of environmentalism and therefore connecting the art school with the Museum’s original role as Cambridge’s sewage pumping and waste destructor station.
