Mamie Olliver: A Jam-packed Life

A look into the life of local chemist, Mamie Olliver, and the impact of her work in the Second World War.

2nd October 2019 to 19th January 2020

Inside the Pye Building you will find our newest exhibition, Mamie Olliver: A Jam-packed Life. Mamie Olliver was a food scientist at Chivers and Sons, a local company and Britain’s leading producer of jam. She was the first female chief chemist at Chivers and made many nutrition-related discoveries in her time there. She also advocated for the inclusion of women in science and was a devoted member of the Cambridgshire community.

In this exhibition you’ll find out how Mamie became one of the first successful female chemists, hear personal accounts of Mamie’s work at Chivers from those that knew her, and discover how her research helped the war efforts at home and abroad. Don’t wait! This exhibition closes 19th January 2020.

The exhibition is included with normal Museum entry.
