The Scanning Electron Microprobe, also known as the Microscan, is an instrument for analysing metallic specimens. It is the result of research at the Cavendish Laboratory and developments at Tube Investments Research Laboratory, Hinxton. Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company manufactured and sold the Microscan commercially. The first prototype was made in May 1960 and this particular one was the 14th of 81 made.
