Gordon Steptoe will provide an insight into Britain's coastal history by describing the phases of development of the port of Felixstowe since its foundation as the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company in 1875. This talk will describe the vision of the entrepreneur George Tomline, and the problems (both economic and operational), which had to be overcome in order to make Felixstowe the UK’s leading container port.
